After a hiatus and multiple interruptions to her competitive schedule, Principia College head women’s tennis coach and associate professor of physical education Shannon Carney won the 2023 USTA National Senior Women’s 65 Singles and Doubles Championships in October.
Stories from Home, the College's Fall 2023 production, pulled together international students, faculty, staff, and members of the community at large to create a devised play based on oral histories. The result was unexpected.
Principia’s 23rd annual Monitor Night Live took on an unexpected gravity as just a week prior the world watched the fires of conflict ignite between Israel and Palestine. “We all need what The Monitor and this conversation have to offer more than ever,” said College President Dr. Norton in his opening statement, a sentiment underscored by audience engagement.
Principia College, returning champions of the collegiate mediation scene, started the year on a high note with a series of wins at the 15th Annual Maharishi International University “Peacemaker” Tournament in Iowa.
This October, the Black Student Union welcomed Dr. Eric Luster to speak to the College and members of the greater community. A decorated Army veteran who specialized in nuclear biological chemistry and tactical satellite communications, Dr. Luster went on to earn a PhD and invent groundbreaking wearable technology.
Dr. Luster grew up in Alton, Illinois and as a child spent many afternoons and weekends on the Principia College campus with mentor (and Black Student Union advisor) Becky Coles.
Last month, College President Dr. Daniel Norton presided over his first Fall Convocation, setting the tone for the semester. Dr. Norton extended a warm welcome to the new students in their native languages—17 languages in total. He emphasized the global nature of Christian Science and Principia College, stating, "Christian Science is a global religion, and Principia is a global college."
The students of the Music in Europe Abroad (Winter 2022-2023) embarked on a remarkable journey into the musical cultures of Austria, the Czech Republic, and France.
